The Umayyads ruled from 661 to 750 AD. That is nearly a century, but how many caliphs actually ruled? Was any of them considered member of the ulama, the learned scholar institution?

14 caliphs.

No they were not considered learned persons, except Umar 2, perhaps.

They are considered arab nationalists more than religious leaders. Similar to Saudi clan ruling Saudi Arabia these days.
