Undoubtedly, the resources
and means of communication were a major hurdle in the way of
faster sharing of ideas. With the presence of the Internet,
scholars from around the world and from various disciplines can
now share information and exchange ideas within seconds.
Additionally, publishing a hardcopy journal is a time consuming
and expensive endeavor. Now, with the capacity to store and
share information electronically, we can create limitless
archives and size-less publications that bring together scholars
from all disciplines and whose common interest is the historical
Islam and the geographical and political Middle East.
In order to achieve the
above objectives, the founders of this project had designed a
flexible editorial policy and an innovative technical design to
publish, retrieve, and reference information. Authors
could submit their non-reviewed papers to our editors, who in
turn will forward the document to two specialists in the field
for determination of whether we should publish or decline the
paper. This option can take a long time for obvious reasons and
we prefer that your use the alternate tract outlined below.
Alternatively, authors may
contact a minimum of two (3 is recommended) established scholars to review their
papers. You must provide them with the
checklist
(view the html
checklist) and
instruct them to email us their recommendations along with your
article directly. The reviewers will rely on the same checklist and
guidelines to decide for or against the publication of the paper. They
then must forward us directly their final decision. This
option is designed to speed up the process as usually authors
are best suited to know colleagues in the same discipline and to
know their schedule as to whether or not they have the time to
review the paper in a timely manner.
The SIME
journal encourages
submissions of research papers, announcements, articles, bibliographies,
out-of-print books, and book reviews on all above-mentioned
topics. Peer-Reviewed Papers are published twice per annum.
Non-peer-reviewed articles, commentaries, and opinion pieces are
published monthly and as Special Editions--when
necessary. The full content of the journal is currently distributed without
charge through the World Wide Web. For deadlines, check the
categories in the top menu.
NB:
Only scholarly research papers and
original theory books (eBooks) are subject to the scholarly review process outlined above. Resource books, translations, and articles are excluded from the review process. For questions, email us at: info@majalla.org
